From 8th to 11th July, already fifth time hapen International Children and Youth Festival "Alle-Jurmala!". This year's main festival activities take place in Riga circus and the circus tent "Alle" as at the festival days will be located in Jurmala, Dudultu square. Festival program: two important performances in Riga Circus- 8th July 18:00 o'clock in historic Riga Circus arena will be opening show of the festival with the participation from the Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Belarusia, and even from the main beam of Morocco, while the 9th July 18:00 o'clock Riga Circus will be the show, involving best participate of the best. In parallel with the activities in the Riga Circus, in Jurmala, Dubulti, in circus tent, "Alle" will be viewable professional Latvian and Russian circus performances and Festival Gala Performance. Both places in Jurmala and in Riga circus an hour before the show viewers, both children and adults, along with circus performers and educators can learn various circus arts tricks. Applications to participate in this festival has sent a circus of study represented as: "Rovesniki" (St. Petersburg, Russia), "Fantazjori" (Orsha, Belarus), "Smile" (Valka, Latvia), "reverence" (Valga, Estonia), "Youth" (Daugavpils, Latvia), "Harlequin" (Salaspils, Latvia), Rundale secondary school studio "Theirs" as well as in Liepaja circus studio "Beztemata" and the Riga Circus studio "Circus star factory". Applied are also acrobats from the main Morocca. The festival participants found their high professional skills, so for example, circus studio "Rovesniki" the students immediately after taking part in this festival will go to two-month long tour of Germany. The five-year existence, the festival "Alle-Jurmala" has become famous and demanding. The show invited guests are Amiens (France) circus director, St. Petersburg State Circus Artistic Director and "Variete and Circus”, director of the Norrköping (Sweden).

On 28th of February at 15:00 Riga Circus arena welcomes to a special show with a reference to 50th birthday of Latvian circus artist Valerijs Aleksandrovs and his 25th year of working in circus. The clown duet GROG under the lead of Valerijs Aleksandrovs will perform also in the international circus program WORLDWIDE BREEZE .
Valerijs Aleksandrovs is professional circus artist – clown, graduate of the Moscow State circus and variety school, winner of the international festival of Leonid Yengibarov in Moscow (1985), silver medallist of the international festival Festival du Cirque de Demain in Paris (1985), awarded with a Tristan Remie medal by International Clown Association as well as laureate of Riga international comedy festival More smeha – 95 (Sea of laughter – 95).
During the first decade of his creative work V. Aleksandrovs was member of a clown duet. Later in 1994, a clown quartet GROG was formed and inspired by V. Aleksandrovs who is both, member and director. The quartet participates in many and various events in Latvia as well as often performs in road shows around the world (Afghanistan, Romania, Cambodia, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Israel, France, Sweden, Belgium, etc.) and cities in Europe. In 2002 Leonids Aleksandrovs, the member of the quartet and Valerijs’ son, participated in the international circus festival Festival du Cirque de Demain in Paris and received a special award as the youngest professional circus artist in the world at that time thus outmatching his father. Today the GROG members are Valerijs, Marina and Leonids Aleksandrovs together with the awesome Arkadijs Prudnickovs!

From 14th of November Riga Circus offers new program – MOSCOW CIRCUS STARS.

The new program is prepared together with the Great Moscow State Circus located at Vernadska prospekt and which is leaded already for 25 years by one of the most notable circus artists in the world – Leonid KOSTJUK.

The art director of the new show is notable and appraised artist and director Murad Abdullayev who has found time in his hectic schedule and many responsibilities in order to participate with his performance in Riga. His shows with bears, white wolf-like dogs and monkeys are performed with great success in Moscow in full circus auditoriums.

In the new program Natalya Bereshko offers lovely performance with cats who will create a lot of fun for the little circus visitors.

For quite a long time there haven’t been horses in Riga circus. This time audience will be entertained by passionate horse-riders jigits Lazarovs.

Those who enjoy sport genre also will be pleased. Troupe of seven persons under command of A. Cheban will surprise as flying acrobats in swings and as bikers on spring-cameras.

After successful tour in Ukraine, S. Polupans and G. Maldanis have arrived in Riga to amaze the audience by their acrobatic elegance and eccentric agility.

The new show offers air-gymnasts, dancers and clowns of course. This time show provides the virtuoso clown duet from Moscow – D. Kremenecki and F. Gulevich.

In the first program of this season spectators of Riga were introduced to our new orchestra, which proved that evening spent in circus with live music is even more enjoyable.

This year Riga Circus celebrates its 120th anniversary since it was built. On Saturday, January 26 at 18:00 p.m. Riga Circus opens its first program called „Extremely charming Europe” in the year of anniversary. The new show “Extremely charming Europe” is created by combining performances of various European artists. For the first time in the show organized by Riga Circus an artist from Germany will take place. Hubert Wawra or Master of Hellfire represents one of the most progressive circus un Europe – German circus Flic Flac, which has set a trend to demonstrate extraordinary achievements in art by using synthesis of technology, pop-culture and circus tricks. In Riga the German artist will give performance with “tamed and dancing tractor” (http://www.clip1.de/bobkat/ ) as well as extraordinary pyrothenics show. The famous Danish illusionist Kim Kenneth has arrived in Riga together with various mysterious equipment and boxes in which he and his partner vanishes while audience is watching. His partner, Italian “Pirate Princess” artist Jessica Caveagna performs virtuous equilibrist performance balancing by using foil and swords. Troupe of acrobats Groupe of Risk under command of Belorussian artist Victor Martisevich is notable for their ten year long experience in touring around Europe – acrobats with spring-pole and rotating cubes. Today Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Sergey Volkov together with his partner Natalya Zaikova gives on the most beautiful air gymnastic performance in circus in the world. Already on Februaru, a Rigan, original juggler Vladimir Svelyev who has received “Audience Sympathy Prize” in European Youth Circus festival in Wiesbaden in 2006, is going on tour to USA. A Rigan Ina Sopova who has performed in the presence of the queen of Spain and whose trained dachshunds, most favourite dogs of the queen of Denmark, have entertained Danish audience for six months. The Latvian artist Darya Golobokiha with her trained cats who has joined show of famous cat show of Russian clown Kuklachov now has returned in Riga after almost year long tour in Sweden and France. For the first time her performance with cats will be shown in Riga Circus. Clown Dima – Dmitry Barashkov. One of most eccentric and passionate “new wave” artistst; eccentric, acrobat and comic at the same time. The new program “Extremely charming Europe” will be shown in Riga Circus every weekend till March,9.

Till 28th October Riga circus opens its 119th season with a new, international program „Tour in fairy-tale”. The new show is combined from various and even contrastive performances in style and temper, which creates multicoloured, exciting atmosphere and dreamlike feeling for viewers in all ages.

What are the main accents of the show? To begin with – exotic performance involving kangaroo, zebra, camels, monkeys, pythons and lamas run by Armenian artist Arkady Gareginyan.

Further – “Professor’s Jermakov dog academy” – a show known in all circus world having an interesting plot, unusual tricks by dogs among which are both – ensemble of exclusive breeds and tykes. Artists – animals play as diligent pupils as well as rogues in professor’s Jermakov geography, math, reading, music and sports classes.

During the last two years the show has earned success in Barcelona Clown festival, Munich TV show “Arena stars”, French television show “Patrick Sebastian provides”; it has received silver prize in Grenoble circus festival in France as well as taken part in a movie “Dog’s happiness” and taken a tour in circus in Switzerland, France, Spain, Russia, Japan.

The picturesque show will be made even more spectacular by African acrobats from Kenya, air gymnast Lyubova Lisovska and plastic acrobat or “girl without bones” Ksenya Blednova from St. Petersburg State Circus, performers of risky stunts – air gymnast duet – Yekaterina Puzireva and Alexandre Abramov, original juggler and virtuoso in basketball – Alexandre Samoletov.

One of the most well-known clown Vasily Trofimov who has visited and given performances in at least sixteen countries and many of them – several times, is an artist who was invited to join collective of very popular Russian clown Oleg Popov in 1977 after a successful debut in clown’s emploi. Using the professional support of the famous artist, Vasily Trofimov has created his clown’s character and repertory; he has earned best clown’s title in Germany (1986) where Oleg Popov lives and works today. After receiving permission and blessing from the grey-haired star, now performs his repertory. V. Trofimov represents the Great Moscow State Circus on Prospekt Vernadskogo, which is considered to have the biggest and most professional circus collective in the world.

It is planned to present the show “Tour in fairy-tale” every weekend until the end of October. Ticket prices in Riga circus are kept the same as in previous season – from 3 to 10 Lats depending on place – hall or balcony.

Circus now is getting ready to welcome artists and viewers – internal repairs are made. As the next year shall be circus anniversary year – 120th season for one of the oldest circus in the world – we want to “dress it up” step by step. As Riga circus is a national cultural monument, this is the time to thing about its reconstruction and renovation. As in the last two years circus, similarly to other state art institutions, finally receives financial support, circus specialists and also viewers can hope that in the nearest future the circus existence and preservation issues will be solved.

Let’s be optimists! Starting from September 21 Riga circus provides a new show and bustling atmosphere!

Starting with the 20th of April till 3th of Juny Riga Circus invites to a completely new program „THE GREAT RISK SHOW” with „DEVIL’S WHEEL” and ADVENTUROUS ACROBATS.

Continuing the activities started in the beginning of the year, Riga Circus provides a program in which artists from various countries are united. This time performances will be shown by the artists from France, Sweden, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan who are joined also by artists from Latvia.

For the first time after several year long pause circus arena will gather together acrobats having various styles and technical skills thus giving a possibility for the audience to watch, evaluate and enjoy passion and taste of risk. „Daredevils” Zurab Skirtladze, Kakha Kvilvidze, Akaki Kartevelishvili, Zviad Gabarshvili and Jemal Parkosazde from Ukraine bring to Riga the technical construction called „Devil’s wheel”, which at the moment has big popularity in circus around the world. During rotation of the wheel around the arena and cupola, artists have to be able to stay in during its movement. The artists from Tbilisi have planned to demonstrate the flight above trampoline and performance of various extreme flips on springboards.

Riga Circus will be visited by the quartet of acrobats-equilibrists from Azerbaijan leaded by Victoria Sobolyeva and Bakhtiyar Ibragimov. They will demonstrate amazing tricks on 7 meter long vertical poles, which are balanced on gentlemen’s shoulders while the ladies perform unique double saltomortale from one pole to another.

Two virtuosi jugglers from France – Charles GOMME and Jeremy CHEPY gives fascinating performance with slapsticks and balls as well as eccentric acrobatics with comical tumbles, passes and jumps – rarely seen genre in Riga.

Amazing balance acrobacy, ability to keep the body in balance while bending it in most unbelievable way and standing on the one hand will be performed by Tatjana Shaiko from Riga.

Original performance will be given by Roman Konanchuk from Ukraine who is a air-gymnast on a vertical chain. Breath taking several meter falls vertically in the lenght of chain!

Any show cannot be imagined without a clown. This time this guest is from Azerbaijan – Vugar Nukhov – guy who will take care of fun for the audience with his every movement, gesture and grimace.

Artists with trained animals come from Sweden and Byelorussia. Jevhimenko family from Minsk State circus will give performance with dogs and amusing bears and Mirek Maternik from Sweden’s circus „Olympia” will have ponies and camels.

This first summer season is planned to be run in Riga Circus until the end of May.

It is different from the winter season because the shows shall take place not only during Saturdays and Sundays but also in Thursday evenings. This will give opportunity to attend the performances also to those Riga citizens who usually spend the weekend outside the city. Prices for the tickets are the same.
